Kyoto cuisine “Takeshima” was founded in 1897 as a traditional inn on Kiyamachi by the Kamo River in Kyoto.
The Kamo River flows to the east and the Takase River to the west, with illuminated cherry blossoms along the Takase in spring,
and open-air riverside “kawadoko” terrace seating to enjoy in summer.
In this elegant kappo-style restaurant, guests can savor seasonal Japanese dishes served on fine Kiyomizu ware, cherished since the days of the ryokan.
The restaurant offers both counter seats and private rooms,
making it suitable for many occasions such as dates, business entertaining, or a relaxed lunch.
A special Shokado bento box is also available for takeout for guests who prefer to enjoy their meal elsewhere.
When you visit the Kamo River area in Kyoto, please enjoy authentic Kyoto cuisine at “Kyoto Cuisine Takeshima ICHIGO” on Kiyamachi, renowned for its summer kawadoko riverside terrace.
“Noryo-yuka” or “kawadoko” are riverside terraces built by teahouses and restaurants along the river, especially on the Kamo River in Kyoto where they are simply called “yuka”.
Guests dine on tatami-floored decks close to the water and enjoy the cool breeze, river views, and elegant atmosphere—an iconic summer tradition long cherished in Kyoto and Osaka.
*Kawadoko terraces are available only for a limited season, typically from May to around September.
Our Shokado bento reflects the elegance of Kyoto’s culinary tradition.
Please enjoy seasonal delicacies beautifully arranged in four compartments of a lacquered bento box, like a mini kaiseki meal.
Each guest is welcomed with the spirit of “ichigo ichie” — treasuring each encounter as a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
Enjoy Kyoto kaiseki at Takeshima ICHIGO this evening, featuring Kyoto vegetables, wagyu beef, and fresh seafood.
Three different dinner plans are available, and the menu can be arranged flexibly to suit your budget.
